1.   Hyderabad centre has distributed 4959 kg rice, 3306 kg dal, 3306 kg sugar, 3306 kg cooking oil, 1653 kg salt, 165 kg spices, 19,836 matchboxes, 8265 candles, 1653 mats, 1653 soap-bars, 1653 saris, 1653 T-shirts, 1653 cooking vessels with lid, 1653 buckets and 1653 mugs to 1653 families of 5 villages in Mehaboob Nagar district. Steps have been taken to provide 400 looms to the flood-affected weavers.

2.   Kadapa centre has served cooked food { a. 1500 plates (each plate containing curry and 6 chapatis), b. 1500 plates of puliyogare and c. 6000 plates of Sambar-rice }, and distributed 58,125 kg rice, 5750 kg dal, 5670 kg cooking oil, 5670 kg salt, 650 kg tamarind, 5690 kg gur, 1152 kg spices, 650 kg sugar, 1000 kg bread, 650 kg onion, 5500 litre drinking water, 27 litre Tetrapack liquid milk, 75 kg biscuits, 720 lungis, 775 saris, 1250 bed-sheets and 1300 soap-bars to 7150 families of 14 villages in Kurnool and Mehaboob Nagar districts. Relief is continuing.

3.  Vijayawada centre distributed 5550 kg dal, 1960 kg sugar, 1968 kg oil, 870 kg tamarind, 760 kg pickle, 4053 duppats, 3951 towels, 45 saris/lungis/towels and 1970 utensil sets (each set having 2 steel plates, 2 steel glasses, 2 steel ladles, 2 Aluminium cooking-pots with lids and 1 steel vessel for milk) to thousands of victims. Besides, about 200 victims were sheltered at our school premises.

Karnataka : October 2009

4.   Belgaum centre : Cooked food is being served twice a day to about 170 victims, and 137 blankets, 137 mats and 60 sets of steel utensils (each set containing 2 cooking vessels, 2 lids and 2 cooking ladles) were distributed at Beeranagaddi village of Gokak Taluk in Belgaum district.

     150 tarpaulins, ropes, 2000 kg wheat powder, 400 kg sugar, 200 kg palm oil, 50 kg milk powder, 50 kg tea powder, 500 blankets, 170 sets of children’s garments (each set having pant and shirts) were distributed to 273 families of Bellary Town and 2 villages in Bellary district.

    150 sets of utensils (each set containing 3 cooking vessels, 2 steel plates, 2 steel spoons, and 1 water storing vessel) were distributed to the victims at Mudlapur village, Koppal district.

5000 kg wheat powder, 1000 kg sugar and 500 blankets were distributed to 500 families of Ola Bellary village, Raichur district.

Arrangements have been made to distribute 5000 blankets, 1000 plates and 1000 bowls in the above-mentioned affected areas of Karnataka. Survey is being conducted in other affected areas of Karnataka also. Steps are being taken to construct houses for the victims.

5.     Lucknow centre served cooked food (Taheri) was served everyday for 8 days to 485 families of Ladsha, Akaria and several other marooned villages in Etauja block of Lucknow district.

 

Gujarat : July 2009

6.     Porbandar centre distributed 1117 kg gathiya and 55 kg bundi to 11,170 victims of 4 villages in and around Porbandar.

 

West Bengal : September 2009

7.     Antpur centre distributed 32,650 kg chira, 3215 kg sugar, 394 kg biscuits, 6 lakhs halogen tablets and 22 bales of used garments to 18,993 families of 51 villages of Jangipara, Khanakul-I & II, Pursurah blocks in Hooghly district and Udaynarayanpur block in Howrah district.

8.     Ichapur centre distributed 48,175 kg chira, 2101 kg sugar, 30 kg gur, 722 kg biscuits, 5,00,000 halogen tablets and 450 kg bleaching powder to 18,104 families of 67 villages in Khanakul - I & II blocks in Hooghly district.

9.     Kamarpukur centre distributed 24,900 kg chira, 5751 kg sugar, 400 kg biscuits and 2,50,000 halogen tablets to 17,982 families of 22 villages in Khanakul - II block, Hooghly district.  Besides, the centre disinfected some areas in the above block using 450 kg bleaching powder and 1800 kg lime dust.

(c) Rahara – 7750 kg rice, 1350 kg dal, 1400 kg potatoes, 124 kg muri (puffed rice), 101 kg salt, 10 kg biscuits, 1335 saris and 1335 mosquito-nets to 1495 families at 4 villages of Hingalganj block in North 24-Parganas district.  Besides, the centre treated 938 patients and provided 250 kg bleaching powder for disinfecting some areas in Sandeshkhali block in North 24-Parganas district.

(d) Saradapitha – 10,150 kg rice, 50 kg potatoes, 2500 mosquito-nets and 20 bales of used garments to 3559 families at 12 villages of Sandeshkhali-I & II blocks in North 24-Parganas district.

(e) Swamiji’s Ancestral House – 2885 kg chira, 146 kg gur, 279 kg sugar, 206 kg rice, 60 kg potatoes, 40 kg biscuits, 14 kg muri, 300 litre drinking water, etc to 560 families at 7 villages of Sandeshkhali-I block in North 24-Parganas district.

(d) Rahara – 6300 kg chira, 1150 kg sugar, 162 kg milk powder, 549 kg biscuits, 30 kg gur, 50 kg muri (puffed rice), 10,244 litre mineral water, 4,50,000 halogen tablets, 600 candles, 2000 matchboxes, 40 saris, 30 dhotis, 30 bales of used garments and 750 kg bleaching powder to 4616 families at 19 villages of Hingalganj block in North 24-Parganas district.  Besides, the centre treated 2050 patients.

(e) Saradapitha – 20,000 kg rice, 4500 saris, 4568 lungis and 700 tarpaulins to 5903 families at 17 villages of Hingalganj and Sandeshkhali-I blocks in North 24-Parganas district.  Besides, the centre treated 6288 patients at 33 villages of Gosaba, Hingalganj, Minakhan and Sandeshkhali blocks in North and South 24-Parganas districts.

 

(f)  Sargachhi – 82,164 plates of cooked food (rice and dalma), 914 kg chira, 516 kg gur, 13,510 kg rice, 113 kg muri, 1198 kg biscuits, 2364 kg baby food, 10,320 litre mineral water, 2,00,000 halogen tablets, 1000 kg bleaching powder, 7000 kg lime, 160 candles, 38 litre Zeoline, 250 bales of used garments and 3 bags of utensils to 4373 families at 22 villages of Hingalganj block in North 24‑Parganas district.

(h) Swamiji’s Ancestral House – 560 kg chira, 70 kg gur, 280 kg rice, 56 kg dal, 70 kg biscuits, 25,000 halogen tablets and a large number of used garments to 2800 victims at 7 villages of Sandeshkhali-I block in North 24-Parganas district.

(i)   Taki – 24,000 kg chira, 3618 kg gur, 165 kg biscuits, 50 kg milk powder and 47,000 halogen tablets to 11,082 families at 27 villages of Hasnabad, Hingalganj and Sandeshkhali-II blocks in North 24‑Parganas district.

(B) Bangladesh: Our Dhaka centre distributed 15,220 kg rice, 6000 kg dal, 7998 oral saline packets, 1010 saris and 4229 sets of utensils (each set containing a bucket, a plate, a cooking pot and a water-storing pot) to 7263 cyclone-affected families of 79 villages in Khulna and Satkhira districts this month.

2. Refugee Relief: Sri Lanka: Our Colombo centre continued relief operations among the victims of Sri Lanka’s civil war which ended recently.  The centre distributed 1000 kg nutritious supplementary food, 1000 kg biscuits, 450 kg soya nuggets, 300 kg glucose, 2416 kg milk powder, 2500 tubes of toothpaste, 2000 toothbrushes, 5000 soap-bars, 2000 towels and 1000 pairs of slippers to 1000 families at Vavunia-Cheddykulam refugee camp this month.

 

3. Flood Rehabilitation: Fiji:  Our Nadi centre has constructed 2 houses and handed them over to 2 poor families at Korovuto, Nadi, who had lost almost everything in a recent flood.

Fire Relief: (a) Andhra Pradesh: Rajahmundry centre distributed 140 saris, 110 lungis, 110 vests, 250 bed-sheets, 252 towels, 110 plastic mats, 106 utensil sets (each set containing 3 cooking pots, 1 water pot, 1 bucket, 2 plates, 2 glasses and 3 ladles) to 103 families whose houses had been gutted by a ravaging fire at Rajavommangi, a tribal village in Andhra Pradesh.

(b) Chandigarh centre provided, under Build Your Own House scheme, 73,500 bricks, 201 bags of cement, 15 trucks of sand, 210 asbestos cement sheets, 559 kg mild steel angles, 64 pairs of door and window frames, and 168 sq ft of Kota stone slabs to 70 poor families that had been rendered homeless by a devastating fire at a slum in Chandigarh.

5. Economic Rehabilitation: Under self-employment programme, Antpur Math distributed 20 van rickshaws, 10 complete weaving sets and 146 weaving equipments (127 huddas, 10 dobis, 7 charkas, 1 tant and 1 guti), and Saradapitha (Belur) centre distributed 4 rickshaws to the needy.

On 31 January, Swami Smarananandaji, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated two renovated buildings at the centre which would be used as the outdoor block and an extension to the indoor ward of the hospital.

Swami Atmasthanandaji, President, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, consecrated the newly built Sri Ramakrishna Temple, with a marble image of Sri Ramakrishna, at Barisha Math, Kolkata, on 9 February, the sacred birthday of Swami Adbhutanandaji. Swami Atmasthanandaji, Swami Smarananandaji, Swami Prameyanandaji and Swami Prabhanandaji addressed the public meetings organized on this occasion. In all, about 450 monastics and more than 16,000 devotees attended the function.

Allahabad centre organized a medical camp, discourses, and an exhibition on Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda at Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Magh Mela from 9 January to 9 February. About 17,000 patients were treated at the medical camp and nearly 90,000 people witnessed the exhibition.

Prolonged torrential rains in the month of January caused one of the worst floods in decades in the western parts of Viti Levu (the largest island in the Republic of Fiji). Towns and villages were submerged for days and thousands of people huddled in emergency shelters.  Our centre in Nadi immediately started relief services to flood victims. The centre served 750 plates of cooked food, distributed 740 kg potatoes, 1200 packets of biscuits, 550 kg dal, 2100 kg rice, 96 packets of milk powder, 1080 litres of milk, 100 packets of salt, 250 packets of tea, 500 bottles of mineral water, etc to more than 1000 families and treated 165 patients in Lautoka, Nadi and Ba. The relief work is continuing.

The following centres conducted post-flood-relief work as stated below.
(a) Bihar:
(i) Katihar centre distributed 2500 blankets, 1671 shawls and 309 mufflers to the flood-affected families in Bihar.
(ii) Patna centre distributed 8250 blankets, 1000 shawls, 1000 woolen jackets and 24,750 garments to 4125 flood-affected families of 25 villages in Madhepura, Saharsa and Supaul districts this month.
(b) Orissa: Puri Math distributed 200 saris to flood victims of 3 villages in Orissa.
2.Winter Relief: 18,039 blankets were distributed through the following centres to poor people in their respective areas: Aalo – 1200, Antpur – 500, Asansol – 707, Bankura – 201, Baranagar Mission (Kolkata) – 500, Belgharia (Kolkata) – 770, Bhubaneswar – 500, Contai – 300, Cooch Behar – 300, Garbeta – 100, Ghatshila – 123, Guwahati – 250, Ichapur – 1100, Jayrambati – 1100, Kamarpukur – 1700, Kanpur – 347, Koalpara (Jayrambati) – 1852, Limbdi – 117, Muzaffarpur – 55, Puri Math – 1000, Ramharipur – 1500, Ranchi Morabadi – 500, Ranchi Sanatorium – 1002, Sikra Kulingram – 1115, Swamiji’s House (Kolkata) – 500, Taki – 700. Besides, the following centres distributed various winter garments, shown in brackets, to the needy: Belgharia (199 sweaters), Garbeta (125 sweaters), Ichapur (350 shawls), Kanpur (179 sweaters).
3.Distress Relief: The following centres distributed various items, shown in brackets, to poor and needy people in their respective areas: Agartala (400 saris, 110 dhotis and 100 children’s garments), Belgaum (375 kg rice, 375 kg flour, 75 kg edible oil and 75 kg dal), Belgharia (1422 saris, 1536 dhotis, 857 pants, 822 shirts and 1673 children’s garments in 8 villages of G Plot Panchayat, South 24 Parganas district), Bhubaneswar (3965 kg rice, 793 kg dal, 396 litre refined oil, 397 kg salt and 54 kg milk powder in 9 districts of Orissa), Chandigarh (180 kg rice, 180 kg flour, 36 kg dal, 18 kg oil, 36 kg salt and 36 kg sugar), Ichapur (2100 saris and 20 dhotis), Kanpur (50 bed sheets, 60 steel plates and 60 steel glasses), Muzaffarpur (60 saris and 55 dhotis), Porbandar (2756 kg rice, 1250 kg dal, 610 kg sugar, 610 kg oil, 76 kg tea powder and 300 packets of biscuits in 3 villages of Jamnagar and Porbandar districts), Sikra Kulingram (200 saris, 100 dhotis and 100 lungis), Taki (500 saris and 50 dhotis).
